Chiropactic Neurology
Chiropractic neurology is a field of health care in which the treating doctor is a chiropractor who analyzes and treats based on neurological findings and function.  This type of doctor is sensitive to the fact that the human organism is a unit and that successful health care must be globally oriented rather than regionally oriented.  Patient examinations are oriented so as to determine the functional strength of each part of the nervous system.  Treatments are selected to specifically strengthen the weakened areas and to avoid strengthening the stronger areas until a balance is achieved.
Chiropractic neurologists are trained to pick up on even the subtle changes and to introduce therapies that help bring brain development into balance

                                                                                            Drugs
Drugs are systemic.  That is drugs act on all parts of the body that they get to (due to physiological reasons some drugs may not get to the brain for example but other drugs might.)  This is one reason for the side effects of drugs; the drug may be introduced to stop the action of an area of the left brain stem, but because the drug is systemic all areas of the body with the appropriate cell configuration will be effected.
Chiropractic neurology is valuable in part due to the high degree of specificity that can be attained.  This is very important in reattaining nervous system balance.  If an area of the left brain stem needs strengthening, it is very important to not also strengthen the corresponding area on the right.

                                                                                    Hemisphericity
Hemisphericity is the term used to indicate an imbalance in functional ability or efficiency between the two halves (left and right) of the brain cortex.  Because of brain interconnections, hemisphericity can show up as high blood pressure, hemorrhoids, differences in flexibility from side to side, double vision, ringing in the ears, sprained ankles, and a multitude of other conditions.  Hemisphericity is important to the chiropractic neurologist as decreased function on one side of the brain is often a major component of problems in the body.
  Chiropractic Neurologist
Chiropractic neurologists see patients with a variety of movement disorders, nerve entrapment syndromes (such as Carpal Tunnel), headaches and other pain syndromes, and general conditions that are consequences of peripheral or central nervous system disorders.   Chiropractic neurologists are able to provide effective rehabilitation for many people who have undergone stroke or other brain trauma

Dr. John Duschatko is a mechanical engineer turned biomechanical engineer! After contributing a decade of work on the International Space Station, Dr. Duschatko made the transition to serving others through the art of chiropractic neurology. He graduated from Parker College of Chiropractic at the top of his class.  Dr. Duschatko has become very involved with brain injury advocacy and rehabilitation.  He is on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Resource and Information Network of North Texas, and has presented at the Brain Injury Association of Texas' State Conference on the subject of brain injury rehabilitation.
(Dr. Duschatko is currently on a leave of absence from his practice in Texas.)
                                        Reasons
The human brain develops through our neurological experiences, be it  Mozart, Rembrandt, baseball, hot tubs, yoga, culinary sensations, a caress, meditation, fragrance of a rose, or a chiropractic adjustment.   Nowhere is the phrase "Use It or Lose It" more applicable than in the nervous system.   Chiropractic works by working the nervous system.   Chiropractic works powerfully because the chiropratic adjustment is one of the most powerful inputs to the brain and nervous system.

A Handbook for Great Health: offering uncommon but practical insights into health
Neurofeedback is a learning technique that brings awareness of a person's brain wave activity and with training that person can learn to regulate their brain waves.
It uses very sensitive computer technology to measure the electrical activity of the brain and feeds back that information to the person so that they can learn to control them.
Neurofeedback has been shown to be highly effective at reducing symptoms from a wide range of disorders, including Attention Deficit Disorder, Addiction issues, anxiety disorders, epilepsy, mood disorders, sleep disorders and recovery from head injury and stroke.

My interest is in helping people make significant positive changes in their lives.  Not only do I provide traditional counseling and therapy for individuals of all ages and families, but I also offer services to achieve optimal performance and wellness. Whenever appropriate, these services are complimented with the use of innovative technologies. For example, since 1992 I have used EEG biofeedback for brain training to manage attention and memory difficulties, migraine headaches, head injures, addictions, pain, depression, and anxiety.

I am fortunate to have diverse experience to bring to the real life issues presented in the counseling setting. My doctoral degree is in Counseling Psychology from Pennsylvania State University.

I was a tenured Professor in Psychology, Director of Clinical Services for the Nevada rural mental health system, and consultant to numerous organizations, hospitals, and sports organizations. I train and supervise therapists, served on the Nevada Board of Marriage and Family Therapist Examiners, and am a licensed psychologist.

Rebounding Promotes Mind-Body Unity - better learning, intuition, balance of two hemispheres of the brain.  Carries more oxygen to the brain through increased blood circulation, thus improving mental alertness.

"When you are rebounding, you are moving and exercising every brain cell just as you are exercising each of the other body cells," according to Alfhild Akselsen, Ph.D., of Austin, Texas, who uses rebounding to treat individuals with neurological disorders.

There are at least 30 chemicals in the cerebral-spinal fluid that bathe the brain continuously. Rebound exercise stimulates the circulation of these fluids, hence improving mental activity.  At the bottom of the bounce each brain cell is stimulated, thus this is an activity that improves memory, stimulates the thought process and activates mental communication to each cell in the brain.

"Toxic heavy metals are leached out of these brain cells to free up the neurons to work more effectively." Nerve transmissions between brain and propreoceptors in joints are coordinated .Stimulate Brain Function.  "

The fastest way to increase blood flow and brain integration for improved vision and eye fitness." Dr R.M.Kaplin; O.D,M.Ed.

Rebounding also benefits brain-injured children, according to a German study involving 20 patients.

Rebounding has a positive affect on stabilizing right and left hemispheric brain balance.  Rebounding improves coordination between the propreoceptors in the joints, the transmission of nerve impulses to and from the brain, transmission of nerve impulses and responsiveness of the muscle fibers.

Rebounding improves the brain’s responsiveness to the vestibular apparatus within the inner ear, thus improving balance.

In addition to helping the brain, rebounding helps in body purification, the cleansing of the blood and all body tissues. The use of a rebounder or mini-trampoline (which can incorporate a jogging or jumping motion)  is an excellent way of stimulating blood and lymphatic circulation, helping to move toxins out of their storage sites and out of your body.

If you’re new to the rebounder, you may want to start out with a “soft walk,” where you simply shift your weight from one foot to another, lifting your heels as you do so. Even this gentle motion is enough to stimulate lymph flow, helping your body to dissolve and eliminate toxins and strengthen your immune system. Rebounding so effectively moves lymphatic fluid that it has been referred to as “lymphasizing.” In addition to clearing the lymph glands, rebounding will provide aerobic exercise (once you’ve worked up to a sustained motion for 15 to 20 minutes), oxygenating your body.

When you jump up and down on a rebounder, the force of gravity alternately pulls and then releases each cell, stimulating cellular fluid flow so that toxic material is flushed out, and nutrients are absorbed. In addition, the valves in your lymphatic system open and shut when you rebound, pumping lymphatic fluid throughout your body. During this process, not only are toxins removed, but white blood cells are also produced. Even a short (two- to three-minute) rebounding session will dramatically increase your white blood cell production, which has the net effect of increasing immunity. In addition to providing cellular cleansing and enhanced immunity, rebounding exercises the musculoskeletal system, protects and strengthens the cardiovascular and peripheral vascular systems and helps restore bone density. It is a safe and easy-to-perform exercise for people of any age and in any physical condition. Use your rebounder at least once daily. Short, frequent rebounding sessions can be as beneficial as a single long one.
Benefits for Children with Learning Disabilities
Rebounding has been used as part of a therapy for children with learning disabilities such as attention deficit disorder (ADD) and autism. Alfhild Akselsen, Ph.D., founder of the Texas Association of Children with Learning Disabilities, based in Austin, sees a lack of mind/body coordination as the underlying problem for many of these children.
"Learning-disabled children have extremely poor coordination, balance, and rhythm," says Dr. Akselsen. "The usual difficulty bringing on a lack of coordination is that one side of the body is not working." She uses rebounding as part of her therapy to teach the child's mind and body to communicate more effectively, and to help the children develop muscle control and improve coordination.
For children with these conditions, the main problem is neuromuscular dysfunction, not reduced intelligence, says Dr. Akselsen. She uses exercises, rebounding, deep nerve and light sensory massage, nutrition, and neuromuscular training to teach the child's body to respond to the brain's output.
She uses various testing exercises to build neuromuscular coordination. One exercise with the rebounder has children bounce with their eyes focused on a fixed point; this helps improve their visual coordination. In another, children hop on one foot and then the other while on the rebounder to develop their sense of balance.
Rebounding has been part of Dr. Akselsen's therapy for learning-disabled children for many years and she contends that even healthy children should begin rebounding routinely at preschool age. "When you are rebounding, you are moving and exercising every brain cell just as you are exercising each of the other body cells," contends Dr. Akselsen. "Toxic heavy metals are leached out of these brain cells to free up the neurons to work more effectively. Rebounding has you work from the outside, from the nerve endings in toward the brain."
Dr. Akselsen has seen some remarkable results from her rebounding therapy. Children who had been unable to express themselves during their first 15 years of life, having a vocabulary of only a few words, were able, after a month or two of therapy, to speak in complete sentences and express their thoughts. "When the physical defect is corrected, the mental defect is also corrected," concludes Dr. Akselsen.
